Privacy Policy
Section 1
What we collect
When you use fork, we collect three categories of information.
Information you provide when writing a book:
- Your protagonist's name (Q1 of the questionnaire)
- Names and roles of anyone else central to your decision (Q1, optional)
- Your decision and the two paths you're considering (Q2–4)
- Context about your life and what's at stake (Q5–9)
- Your style preference (Q10)
Information needed to deliver your book:
- Your email address (for sending you your book)
- Your first name (for personalization in emails)
Information automatically collected:
- Basic technical information needed to make the site work (browser type, IP address, device type)
- The fact that you visited storyfork.ink
Information collected if you subscribe to The fork Letter:
- Your email address (stored in Beehiiv, our newsletter platform)
Information collected if you purchase a book:
- Payment information is processed by Stripe. We do not see or store your credit card details. Stripe maintains its own privacy practices, available at stripe.com/privacy.
Section 2
What we do with your information
We use the information you provide to:
- Generate your personalized book using your answers
- Send your book to your email address
- Allow you to read your book at storyfork.ink anytime via your private link
- Process your payment
- Send you the welcome email and (if you opted in) future newsletters
- Send you a follow-up email approximately 14 days after your book is delivered
- Respond to your questions if you contact us
That's it. We don't:
- Read your books or answers, unless you explicitly share them with us for support
- Sell your information to anyone
- Share your information with advertisers, data brokers, or analytics platforms beyond what is strictly necessary to run the site
- Use your answers or your book to train AI models
- Match your information against other databases
- Use your information for targeted advertising
Section 3
How long we keep your information
We retain different categories of information for different periods.
Your book itself: Stored indefinitely in your private library, accessible only via your private link. You can request deletion at any time by emailing hello@storyfork.ink.
Your raw answers to the ten questions: Deleted after 30 days. After this period, only your generated book remains — not the answers that produced it.
The character bible and per-chapter generation context: Deleted at the same time as your raw answers (30 days after generation).
Your email address: Kept as long as you remain a subscriber, or as long as your account is active. You can unsubscribe at any time.
Payment records: Kept for as long as required by tax and accounting law (typically 7 years in the United States).
If you ask us to delete your book and your data entirely, we will do so within 30 days of your request, except for information we're legally required to retain.
Section 4
Where your information is stored
Your information is stored in the following places:
- Lovable Cloud (our app and database provider) — books, answers, and account information
- Stripe — payment records
- Beehiiv — email subscription information
- Resend — email delivery records
- Anthropic — the AI model that generates your book sees your answers in real-time during generation, but Anthropic does not retain this information beyond the immediate generation request. See Anthropic's privacy practices at anthropic.com/privacy.
All of these services are based in the United States. If you're outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US.
Section 5
Who can see your information
Only you and fork's systems can see your book and your answers. No other customer can see your information.
Within fork, the people who could access your information are limited to:
- The founder of fork (one person), who has technical access to the database
- Our service providers (Lovable, Stripe, Beehiiv, Resend, Anthropic), who can access information only as needed to run their part of fork
fork's founder commits to not reading your answers or your book unless you specifically share them with us for support purposes — for example, if you write to us about a quality issue with your book.
We're a small operation. There is no marketing team analyzing your data. There is no analytics dashboard mining your answers. We don't have engineers reviewing usage patterns.
Section 6
Cookies and tracking
fork uses a minimal set of cookies and similar technologies:
- Strictly necessary cookies that make the site work (remembering your in-progress book if you leave and come back, keeping you logged into your library)
- Local storage to save your in-progress questionnaire answers so you don't lose them if you navigate away
We do not use:
- Third-party advertising cookies
- Cross-site tracking pixels
- Marketing analytics tools (no Google Analytics, no Facebook Pixel, no behavioral tracking)
- Heatmap or session-recording tools
If we ever add basic analytics to understand how fork is used, we will use privacy-respecting analytics that don't track individual users, and we'll update this policy.
Section 7
Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access your information — request a copy of the information we hold about you
- Correct your information — if anything we have is wrong, let us know and we'll fix it
- Delete your information — request that we delete your books, answers, and account
- Withdraw consent — unsubscribe from any emails at any time
- Object to processing — tell us if you don't want your information used in certain ways
- Data portability — request your books in a portable format (PDF, ePub) so you can take them elsewhere
To exercise any of these rights, email us at hello@storyfork.ink. We'll respond within 30 days.
If you're in the European Union, the United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with specific privacy laws (GDPR, CCPA, etc.), you have additional rights under those laws. Contact us and we'll honor them.
Section 8
Children's privacy
fork is intended for adults. You must be 18 or older to use fork. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a minor has provided us with information, contact us at hello@storyfork.ink and we'll delete it.
Section 9
Security
We take reasonable steps to protect your information:
- Information is encrypted in transit (HTTPS everywhere on storyfork.ink)
- Payment information is handled entirely by Stripe (we never see your card details)
- Access to our database is limited to authorized people
- Our service providers (Lovable, Stripe, Beehiiv, Resend) maintain their own security practices
That said, no system is perfectly secure. If we ever experience a data breach that affects your information, we will notify you as soon as reasonably possible and take steps to mitigate harm.
Section 10
Sharing your information
We share your information only when:
- It's needed to run fork (with our service providers listed in Section 4)
- You explicitly ask us to (e.g., sharing your book with someone)
- We're legally required to (e.g., a court order or law enforcement request)
We do not share your information for marketing, advertising, or any commercial purpose other than running fork itself.
Section 11
International users
fork is operated from the United States. If you use fork from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed in the US. We rely on standard contractual safeguards for international data transfers where required.
Section 12
Changes to this Policy
If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we'll notify you — typically by email if you're subscribed, or by an update notice on storyfork.ink. We'll update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
Material changes won't be applied retroactively to information we've already collected without your consent.
Section 13
